Visit Nashville Like A Local

My husband and I are both proud Tennessee natives. I grew up in Gallatin, a small town just 30 minutes north of Nashville. No matter where life takes me, I always find my way back to Nashville at least twice a year. Every time I visit, I love soaking in all the familiar places from my childhood — and discovering all the new spots popping up around the city. In this blog post, I’m excited to share my favorite things to do in Nashville — from timeless classics to hidden gems — so you can make the most of your next trip to Music City.

Nashville

Where To Eat

I’m a huge foodie! Especially when living abroad. You can’t find American food (Nashville style) anywhere but in Nashville. So when I’m in town, you know I’m eating at all my favorite places.

Loveless Cafe– I’ve eaten at the Loveless Cafe more times than I can count. I can honestly say it never disappoints, and it’s a “true southern style meal.”

5 Daughters’ Bakery  Some of the best baked goods you will ever eat. (This is saying a lot since I’ve also lived in Europe for the last 7 years and traveled to France many times)

The Pharmacy– This is probably one of the most talked-about places to eat in Nashville. The outdoor eating at the McFerrin location is 10/10 in the summer. If you’re looking for a good burger, look no further. Additionally, if you’re unable to visit The Pharmacy during your stay, you can see it as you’re leaving now at the Nashville Airport.

If you’re up for a little road trip, Franklin is about 20 minutes up the road. There are a few more popular places to try.

Pucketts

Biscuit Love- I can honestly say they make the best biscuits I have ever eaten in my life. If you visit Franklin, this is one place you need to stop!

Things You Should See & Do!

Bluebird Cafe – I’ve only been once, but it was well worth it! It’s on my bucket list to go again one day. (Tickets can be hard to get!) So many famous artists have performed at Bluebird (Including Taylor Swift!) Most of the people who perform at Bluebird perform here before they’re famous. If you’re lucky enough to grab tickets, you should 100% go!

Opryland Hotel- If you can afford to stay at the Opryland Hotel, you should 100% stay there. My family and I enjoy staying at Opryland when we visit our family for Christmas. Staying at the Opryland for Christmas will give you all the warm, fuzzy Christmas feeling you get when you watch a Christmas movie. If you’re not visiting during Christmas, there are other attractions to see as well. The Opryland has started its renovations on its outdoor entertainment area. Opry Mills is a walkable area with numerous restaurants and an outlet mall.

Nashville Murals – Murals started popping up all over Nashville within the last 5 years. This was not a thing when I was growing up. The city has become a highly sought-after destination for influencers. Nashville is home to many talented artists.

What Lifts You Up

My Favorite Places To Shop

I’m a huge fan of flea markets, thrift stores, and antiques. If this is your vibe, keep reading! I have several suggestions for you.

Goodwill Franklin– I love shopping here when I’m home. I’ve found some nice name-brand items at great prices. (Free People, Levi, Lululemon, Patagonia, etc)

Nashville Flea Market– This flea market is packed full of literally EVERYTHING! It’s not every weekend, so if you want to visit, you need to plan your trip accordingly.

Downtown Franklin– So many places that I love that I wrote my own blog post about it! You won’t regret visiting downtown Franklin when you visit Nashville.

Downtown Gallatin– My hometown, I’ll be honest I didn’t give Gallatin enough credit. It has a lot of charming shops on the square. My mom and I spent an entire afternoon walking around looking at all the different stores. If you’re in Nashville, and you’re looking for a quick day trip. Visit my hometown of Gallatin! You won’t regret it.

Things To Do With Children

The Adventure Science Museum – I grew up visiting here with my family and on school trips. It is a place that never gets old (Even as an adult)

Nashville Zoo– If I’m being honest, growing up, this wasn’t the best zoo. Honest,ly I’ve also been to some amazing zoos all over the world and this doesn’t even come close to the top 5. However, if you’re in Nashville and you’re looking for something fun to do with the kids. I recommend taking a day and exploring the Nashville zoo.

Tips & Tricks To Visiting Nashville

I would recommend avoiding a visit in the summer. It’s going to be extremely hot, overpriced, and you won’t be able to enjoy yourself. I would say that visiting in October or November would be the best time.

Book your hotel well in advance! I’ve done it both ways. I’ve booked in advance (Saved a lot of money), and I’ve booked last minute and spent a little more than I wanted.

I hope this post has helped you plan your trip to Nashville! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out.
