Kid-Friendly Restaurants Near Garmisch, Germany
When we travel, I’m always trying to find kid-friendly restaurants. It’s so hard traveling with small children. The last thing my kids want to do after a long day of traveling is sit down, be quiet, and not move. (Right?) Also, I enjoy the idea of having the kids entertained while I eat and talk with friends.
We’ve lived in Garmisch for two years, and I know all the local kid-friendly places! If you’re looking for other places with great restaurants, check out Eat Like A Local Garmisch, Germany.
I will warn you right now that this is a seasonal restaurant (Late Spring-Summer); we’ve shown up a few times and missed the seasonal hours, so double-check that it’s open CHECK HERE. This restaurant is a traditional Bavarian Hutte with lots of delicious food. The shining star, though, is its AMAZING playground located right beside the outdoor seating! My children could play at this playground for hours while I drink a beer and enjoy the company of my friends.
This restaurant is open all year, although you might get a look when you try to sit outside in the winter (We’ve done it so the kids could play at the playground). The playground is next to the outdoor seating, making it easy for children to play while the parents hang out and enjoy each other’s company in peace. They will accommodate large groups, too! Make sure you bring Euro they do not take cards!
This restaurant is one of my favorites, not because the playground is fantastic, but because I love the location and the fact that they don’t mind children. They have a little fire engine with a slide that children can climb on; it’s also located in a big pedestrian area, so older children can walk around and get wiggles out easily! The owners are very friendly, and the staff has always been great with our children.
This is one of the most popular restaurants in Garmisch; I would even go a step further and say that it’s fancy! It also has some of the best views in Garmisch! During the summer, when you can sit outside, this is a child-friendly restaurant. Toni Alm is right next to a huge green space where my children play and run around while we wait for food. It’s also close to the train, so train spotting is a lot of fun, and of course, seeing cows is always a highlight, too. The staff at Toni Alm is AMAZING and very friendly. They are always kind and accommodating to my children, too. They also offer a kid-friendly menu. Make sure to call ahead and get a reservation and make sure to state if you want to be seated outdoors.
My favorite restaurant to eat at during the winter! They have a little indoor play area with children’s toys. I love this little area because it gives my children a safe place to move and play while waiting for food. I also don’t feel like they need to be super quiet in the play area (indoor voices) but giggles and playing is 100% acceptable here. The staff is super friendly, and the food is fantastic. Some of my favorite Italian food in Gamisch!
Has a cute little play area for babies and toddlers. This play area is excellent for tiny children and a great place to put your toddler when trying to eat. The staff is so kind, and they make kid-sized oven-baked pizzas! My children are too old to play in the play area, but they love eating here because the staff is also so kind. They usually bring my 5-year-old crayons and paper to play with. The little things make going to certain restaurants worth it to us!
Der Laden is a brunch and coffee shop. The coffee shop changed owners, and the new owners made a little toddler corner. It has coloring books, a baby play area, and books. This brunch/coffee shop is great if you have a toddler and want to meet friends for brunch or coffee.
This Alm is located on top of the Kreuzeck mountain and you’ll either have to hike up (not an easy hike) or pay to take the bahn to the top of the hill to reach the top. (I recommend this option with children) Once you arrive at the top of the mountain, you’ll need to walk about a 1/2 mile to the Alm. It’s an easy walk, and small children can do it with the help of their parents. (not stroller friendly) This Alm has a nice playground and outdoor seating area for parents. Make sure to bring cash to this alm as the credit machine did not work when we visited.
Tirolerhaus
This Alm is located in Erhwald Austria (20 minute drive from Garmisch) on top of the mountain which means that you’ll have to take the bahn up or hike to the top. This Alm in the winter has a really nice outdoor play area, they make tunnels for slides and rope climbing areas. In the summer, they bring out the trampolines, bike go-carts, and the swing set! This Alm is located in an area with a ton of green space (winter its a ski resort) so the kids can run around and enjoy being outside while you have a drink and enjoy the outdoors. Erhwald is also home to a few Family Fun Hikes. You can read my blog post about them HERE.
Klammhaus Outdoor Seating Restaurant
The Klammhaus is located on the walk to the Partnochklamm in the summer they bring out a little swing set and play area for children. Its a great spot to take a break, grab a drink and enjoy the sound of the running water from the creek.
Da'Nico Sonnenterrasse Holzofen
This restaurant is located in Farchant in a town about a 10-minute drive from Garmisch, Germany. It’s an Italian restaurant with a little bit of Bavarian food added. The restaurant has a little playground and a green space for children to play while parents eat. I love the owners! They are very friendly, and every time they see my kids, they say hi and tell them to play! It’s also located right next door to my favorite playground in the Garmisch area. You can read more about that playground here.
McDonald's In Garmisch
The McDonald’s in Garmisch, is more like a really big cafe. It’s super clean, huge upstairs eating area with a toddler corner. It’s a perfect place for moms to escape the house on rainy days in Garmisch.
The Lodge
The Lodge is a popular restaurant that many locals visit on Wednesdays in the summer. On Wednesday, it’s Schnitzel night! Very popular with the locals. This year they put in a small playground for children! This is huge because there’s always a ton of kids but not a lot of things to do for the kids. Next time I’m there I’ll make sure to snap a picture to share.
I hope this list of kid-friendly restaurants helps you relax and enjoy your visit in Garmisch, Germany! It’s such a great place to visit and I’ve been very lucky to call it home the last two years! Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
