Rainy Day Activities In Garmisch, Germany

Garmisch is an enchanting town, known for its stunning landscapes and outdoor adventures. But when the weather takes a turn, it doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. If you’re visiting Garmisch, Germany, with your family on a rainy day, here are some fantastic indoor activities to keep everyone entertained.

Partnachklamm Gorge

Even though it’s an outdoor activity, Partnachklamm Gorge can be a thrilling adventure, rain or shine. You’re likely to get wet anyway as you explore the gorge, so a light rain shouldn’t dampen your spirits. Tip: Always check online to confirm it’s open before heading out.

DAV Boulderhalle

Burn off some energy at DAV Boulderhalle, an indoor rock climbing wall that’s perfect for climbers of all levels. You can rent all the necessary equipment and spend the afternoon learning how to rock climb. It’s a great way to keep active and challenge yourselves.

Zugspitzland Grainau Pool

This family-friendly pool has something for everyone. It features a small kiddie pool, a large lap pool, a recreational pool with inflatables for kids, and a cozy warm pool with jets. Whether you’re a seasoned swimmer or just looking to splash around, this pool has got you covered.

Visit the Top of Zugspitze

Sometimes, a rainy day in the valley means snow on Zugspitze. (Even during the summer) This mountain offers a unique experience where you could be sledding in July! The cable car ride up to the top is an adventure in itself and provides stunning views regardless of the weather.

Erhwald Swimming & Rock Climbing

This is located about 30 minutes away from Garmisch and offers both an indoor and rock climbing.  This is a great rainy day spot that’s not super popular with tourist. Yay

Places to visit if you don't mind traveling

Swarovski Museum (1.5 Hours Away)

Don’t be fooled by the name; the Swarovski Museum is incredibly kid-friendly. It boasts a 4-floor indoor playground and numerous hands-on activities for the entire family. This museum is worth the drive and offers a day full of fun and exploration.

Deutsches Museum (1 Hour Away)

The Deutsches Museum in Munich is a must-visit. It’s enormous—so much so that you’ll need multiple visits to see it all. With countless exhibits spanning science and technology, it’s not just educational but hugely entertaining for both kids and adults.

Olympiabad Seefeld Pool (1 Hour Away)

One of our favorite indoor pools, Olympiabad Seefeld Pool, features indoor and outdoor sections, heated water, and two exciting water slides that the kids will love. It’s a fantastic destination for families looking to swim and play.

BergTierPark Blindham (1.5 Hours Away)

This charming petting zoo has a huge indoor play area filled with activities to entertain the kids. Even though most of the zoo is outdoors, the indoor facilities make it a great spot for a day with light rain. Remember to bring snacks and some cash for feeding the animals.

While visiting Garmisch on a rainy day may not be ideal, there are plenty of indoor activities to keep your family entertained. From rock climbing and swimming to exploring interactive museums, there’s no shortage of fun things to do.
