I love Slovenia!

Today marks day 10! We have lived in Slovenia a total of 10 days, and it’s been nothing but AMAZING!!! To celebrate 10 days, I thought I would write down 10 things I’ve learned, or love, about this little country.

1. Slovenia is sooooooo child-friendly! We went shopping at the mall and while I shopped the boys, including Tyler, played in this huge jungle gym for FREE! We could have left Nolan while we shopped, but Heath wanted to play and wasn’t old enough to be left without parents.

There is literally toys, and play places, EVERYWHERE! You go and grab coffee with friends, and the coffee place has a playground. You go out to eat dinner, and there’s a play area for kids! Why hasn’t the United States caught on to this?! Happy kids equal happy parents willing to spend more money if kids are entertained… It’s genius!

You can also pay money (about 8 euro) for an Animator. An Animator is basically a babysitter that will follow your child EVERYWHERE and entertain them while you eat in peace, drink coffee with friends, or go to the spa while they go to the swimming pool. Literally a hired friend for your child. Again, pure GENIUS!!!

2. Fresh markets (real ones) are EVERYWHERE, especially on Saturday, and it’s soooo cheap and healthy. You can get apples, oranges, meats, bread, and fresh apple juice (which I’m addicted too, so much so the owner of the stand knows my name already!) The market stand owners are all so sweet, they give Nolan apples free left and right. (We came home today with 4 and a half apples, he ate one on the walk back ha)

3. Slovenia knows how to decorate for Christmas. We don’t have any Christmas decorations in our hotel room, but that isn’t a big deal at all because we are living in a hotel in the heart of the city. The city center has a Christmas tree that is 30ft high and every street has thousands of lights hanging from the sky. You have people playing Christmas music and singing, it’s seriously so magical here.

The Christmas markets are extra special and offer a wide of handmade goodies, which are PERFECT for Christmas gifts! I think the best way to describe this town to my family and friends in TN is to imagine Opryland Hotel times a thousand, and EVERYTHING is real painted on the walls. (Restaurants, music etc) Slovenia is a real-life life Opryland hotel!

4. You can walk anywhere in the city (almost).. I wish I had a FitBit, I literally have walked and walked and walked. But, it’s been AWESOME! I’m looking at bikes tomorrow as the city is SUPER bike friendly.

5. For every 70 people in Slovenia there’s one vineyard… They sure do love their wine. You can get a bottle of wine here for as little as 2 euro (roughly $2 dollars) and it’s tasty too. (Crazy right!)

6. You can drink wine on the street, in the mall, first thing in the morning, on the playground or late at night. It’s for sale when the sun comes up and still going when the sun goes down. Hot wine is called Mulled wine, it’s very yummy.

7. Part of the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian was filmed in Slovenia.

8. Ljubljana, the capital where I live, translates to “The loved one” Cool right?!

9. Every year Slovenia plants 1.2 million trees.

10. History fact. Slovenia declared independence from Yugoslavia on 25th June 1991

If you get the chance to visit Slovenia you won’t be disappointed, I’ve only been in Slovenia 10 days and I’m head-over-hills in love with this little country. I keep thinking when we come back for our 3-year tour (somewhere) I’ll be begging Tyler to come back to Slovenia to visit. It’s such a warm and welcoming place.

Can I simply say what a relief to find somebody who actually knows what theyre speaking about on the internet. You definitely know how to carry a problem to gentle and make it important. Extra individuals have to learn this and understand this aspect of the story. I cant consider youre no more well-liked since you positively have the gift.
